Welcome to Openings Studio version 3.20! We have some great features in this release, however what you see is only a portion of what our team has been working on. Last May, we began upgrading the Visualizer/3D Building View and while that's not publicly available just yet, it will be in early 2024! This is exciting because we are seeing an overall performance improvement. This should help answer the question of, "Can you make Openings Studio faster?"
Yes! We can, and we are!
We also have a big user access control upgrade on the way that will make account maintenance and permission management easier. We've added some pieces of that puzzle in recent releases, as well as this release, but there is much more to come throughout the next year.
Back to this release. Below is a list of the features we have been working on, in addition to those big projects. Continue reading to find out what we've added, as well as some bugs we fixed. Enjoy the release! We hope you are as excited about what is to come as we are!
Invite collaborators to your project
Sharing projects is the easiest its ever been with the Invite Collaborators button on the Details screen. Add any existing Openings Studio user to your project by entering their email address. This feature works across firms and countries on the same server, so if you want to share your project with someone in another company or country, you can!
You can add multiple email addresses by using commas to separate them, decide who gets read-only or read-write access, and send them an email with an optional message about why you've added them to your project.
Note: If you add someone to your project and later want to remove their access, check out the Authorized Users button where you can remove people from projects as-needed.
Details screen Save button text change
It may seem minor, but accessibility guidelines tell us that buttons should say what they do, and we believe that accessibility makes software better for everyone. The save button on the Details screen now tells you that it's going to send to you to the Openings screen when you click it. This has always been the case, but now it is clear to new and existing users alike.
Permissions updated
Our software is incredibly flexible. But, with flexibility comes complexity. Our user permissions can be somewhat difficult to understand, so we're constantly improving them. We added what was missing and removed what wasn't necessary. As mentioned above, this is just a piece of where we are headed and part of a larger user experience improvement plan.
Pricing adjustments tool updates
Just a few modifications to make using the pricing adjustments tool easier. We've added a clear all to reset the discounts to zero, as well as a cancel button to make the screen a little more user-friendly. Some of the text boxes were also increased in size to accommodate the different currencies around the world.
Distributor import improvements to revisions
Did you know in North America, Openings Studio can bring in projects from distributor software programs like PRO-TECH and Comsense? We can, including revisions/updates to projects! We've made changes to more accurately create revisions, such as keeping custom entered notes, installed data, RFIs, and mobile app history, while updating the other parts of the opening information.
Contact import template bug fixed and improved
This feature is for specification writers, independents, and distributors who use Openings Studio to write specifications and work with architects. Importing firm names can be done manually, or through Excel. The Excel document was buggy, so not only did we fix it, but we made it smarter to tell you if you have any errors in the spreadsheet. It can be found under Contacts -> Import.
Note: This spreadsheet is for creating companies, not for registering individuals working in those companies. Individuals will continue to the follow the registration process that they have in the past.
Click Import... under Contacts to download the template to fill out.
Revit® 2023 and newer: Key schedule issues corrected
Not to be confused with the key schedules used in the door and hardware world, key schedule is also a feature in Revit that is occasionally used to create door schedules. The way parameters are defined in the Revit API drastically changed in newer versions of Revit and some of the key schedule data wasn't coming in correctly on analyzed projects. We've fixed this so now you can accurately map your projects.
Quality of life improvements
We fixed a bug where the toolbar would sometimes disappear next to the Door & Frame Schedule. We also made a change to stop Openings Studio from jumping in front of other programs when you launch, if you click on a different program.
